Dr Peter Sethusa started his career as a radiographer, later trained as a dentist and finally specialised in orthodontics. After qualifying as an orthodontist in 2006, he assumed a full-time specialist post at Medunsa/University of Limpopo, now Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, where he started as Acting HOD till he became a Professor in the Department. He has 16 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has presented at many local and international congresses. He served in all local training institutions as an external examiner and a panellist on the accreditation team.
He bowed out of a 16-year full-time academic career at the end of January 2023 but continues to assist post-graduate students pro bono during his spare time. He is also crafting an international Post-Graduate Diploma in Cleft Lip and Palate. His 16-year academic career culminated in training and graduating numerous undergraduate students in Dentistry and Oral hygiene, including 12 Post-graduate diplomates, 14 Master’s students and 14 orthodontists, with two more finalising their studies this year (2024). During his first 11 years of academia, he also worked and managed part-time private practices.
